Welcome

Welcome to Kansas City and congrats on your team getting this far!

The purpose of this blog is to provide information to those attending the NCAA Division 2 Football Championship game at Children's Mercy Park. If you have any questions, please leave a question below in the comments. If any locals have any suggestions, please feel fee to mention those as well.

There will be a Pep Rally for both teams on Friday night at the Power & Light District (http://www.powerandlightdistrict.com/) If you're looking for a one stop shop for entertainment on Friday night (or Saturday if you stick around) - this is it. P&L has a little bit of everything - restaurants, clubs, etc. And parking is only like $2.

The Plaza is classic Kansas City. I would recommend at least driving thru and checking out the lights. Whenever NFL or any national program come to KC, they always show the Plaza lights. But unless you are made of money, I wouldn't recommend shopping down there.

There are many educational sites around KC. Please see the Attractions page on the right that will provide links to many of the sites around Kansas City.

So the above map is obviously of the Kansas City metro area. Thruout this page you will hear reference to some geographic areas, so here is a run down. Starting at the top, the blue diamond is KCI airport. Moving counter clockwise - the black star is Sporting Park - the location of the Championship Game, this area is also known as the Legends.  The red square is the area known as the Kansas City Plaza. The yellow square that is covering up the second 'a' in Kansas City is in downtown KC and this area is known as the Power & Light (P&L) District. The smaller purple box below the 'C' in City is the Jazz Distrist.

Traffic:
For the most part - Kansas City drivers are frustrating. As a whole - traffic in Kansas City is pretty easy compared to most other metro areas (especially compared to the Cities and Denver or even the Springs.) I do want to warn people of what I call the "Kansas City Drift". People from here don't notice it at all, and I've lived here for several years and have gotten used to it - but basically it's not uncommon for someone to drift into your lane or almost into your lane. The other drivers are used to it and will accomodate it and all shift over and not think anything of it. It was the most nerve wracking thing when I first moved here. If you obey the law and stay in your lane, they will hit you and others will think that you are the one that is in the wrong. Going along with this, KC drivers have no idea how to merge (think on/off ramp) or use a round-about.
