Attractions

If you are like me, you value the educational things, I would recommend taking in the Liberty WWI Memorial and Museum. (https://theworldwar.org/) (Useless trivia - the first time the 5 supreme Allied commanders of WWI were all together at the same time was at the dedication of the site; also the money for the memorial was raised in 10 days - 2.5 million, which is the equivalent of 34 million today) Just down the hill from the WWI museum is Union Station. It is very cool to check out. This time of the year they have a monster model train exhibit. Within Union Station is Science City and I believe that there is a giant exhibit of bugs going on right now.

Independence is the home of Truman Presidential Library (http://www.trumanlibrary.org/) While in Independence, you may want to drive by the Independence Temple - apparently where Jesus is going to rule from to according to Joseph Smith.

Another fun stop - especially if you are bringing children would be Crown Center. I know that they have ice skating outside, but inside they have LegoLand and the Sea Life Aquarium. There is a Fritz Railroad Restaurant (several other locations around town) which has a train that delivers your food to your table - the kids love it! Kansas City is also the home of Hallmark. Next to the Crown (think about the Hallmark Crown) is the Hallmark Visitors Center - its free and kinda cool. Within Crown Center is Halls - which is a high end dept store owned by Hallmark.

You can't think of Kansas City without thinking of Jazz. The heart of KC Jazz is in the Jazz District (18th & Vine as the song goes). Within the Jazz district is the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. A couple of blocks from the Jazz district is the original Arthur Bryants BBQ.

Another area of town that is an entertainment hub is the Power & Light District. There will actually be a Pep Rally there the night before the game for both teams.

The Plaza is quintessential Kansas City. Whenever TV comes to KC, they always show the lights of the Plaza. Which are very neat to see. The Plaza is a rather ritzy area full of high end shops and dining.

Just north of downtown, between downtown and the Missouri River is the eclectic area known as the River Market. There are lots of little ethnic shops and restaurants in that area. Also there is the Arabia Steamboat Museum there.
