BBQ

Kansas City is synonmous with BBQ. There are a lot of really good BBQ places in KC, and you could probably ask 10 Kansas Citians their favorite BBQ place, and you may get 10 different answers. Arthur Bryants is the most well known KC BBQ place, and there are two locations - the original (aka better) location is located close to the Jazz District the other is literally across the street from Sporting Park. Oklahoma Joes / Joe's Kansas City (used to be called Oklahoma Joes - just changed their name) is another well known BBQ establishment.  Anthony Bourdain listed Kansas City Joe's as one of his "13 Places to Eat Before You Die" and said, "It's the best barbecue in Kansas City, which makes it the best barbecue in the world." FYI - KC Joes is closed on Sundays. Long lines at KC Joe's and the original location is literally in a gas station - which adds to the atmosphere. If you don't want to stand in line, they do have a To Go menu, and you can just call ahead and pick it up. Gates BBQ is another popular choice. Be ready to be yelled at as soon as you walk in. You will get their customary "Can I HELP You" as a welcome. There are several Gates locations thruout the metro. As far as upscale BBQ goes, Jack Stack is top of the line - table linens, etc. Smokin' Guns BBQ was featured on Guy Fieri's "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives" and is one of the best IMO in KC.  LC's BBQ is also considered one of the best in town. Like I said, asking for the best BBQ in KC is a very difficult question, as everyone has their own preference. I would highly recommend these places.

STEAKS

McCormick & Schmick Seafood Restaurant on the Plaza is good but can be a little spendy. Same can be said for Pierpont's at Union Station. Jess & Jim's Steak House is really good, but is quite a ways from Sporting Park area. You can't go wrong with the Hereford House - and there are several locations around town. Plaza III is supposedly amazing, but I've never tried - too rich for my blood. Em Chamas is a Brazillian style steak house - if you've never tried one, I would recommend it.

OTHER BY LOCATION:

LEGENDS: lots of typical chains, Jazz - Cajun, not bad for being outside of N'awlins, T-Rex Cafe - fun place for the kids

PLAZA: Kona Grill - steaks & sushi, Classic Cup, Tomfooleries - bar & restaurant, many others

P&L (Power & Light): lots of them - BRGR is gourmet burgers, Makers Mark is bourbon and steaks, The Dubliner is what it sounds like, Drunken Fish Sushi is good I'm told if you dig raw fish,

Misc: Strouds - AMAZING fried chicken served family style. Several locations around town.  Thai Place - the best Thai in KC. Cinzzettis - All you can eat Italian feast. The Peanut - amazing wings - several locations around town.

Breakfast: The Big Biscuit and Corner Cafe - you can't go wrong with either of these. Both have multiple locations
